The coolest place to shop this week is my closet
I’ve signed a year+ long lease in London. I move in February, so I’m back in LA to tie up loose ends, which includes things like vintage Holly’s Harp wrap blouses. If you’re a fan of 1970s crepe gowns or threadbare vintage rock tees, you might be in luck — because I’m unloading some of my favorite things to make room for more experiences and less stuff in an unfamiliar new world (and maybe some warm weather pieces, because London is fucking cold).
Closet sales are personal, and I don’t know what could be more personal (other than a crotchless negligee — sorry, NFS) than the Alexander McQueen wedding dress I wore to marry someone much less committed than me. Who was I, posing for Martha Stewart Weddings anyway? I’ll never forget when Jezebel broke into my password-protected wedding registry the week of my wedding and skewered me for simply having one.
There was once a time I thought things could be permanent, and today I question it — and am optimizing to embrace impermanence rather than be governed by it.
On Thursday, December 12th, I’ll be live, in the flesh, hosting the opening preview of my closet sale in Los Angeles at Arcade in ROW DTLA 6 PM to 9 PM. The exact address is 777 S Alameda St Suite 174, Los Angeles, CA.
And you can RSVP here!
If you can’t make it to LA, we’ll be dropping pieces on the Arcade Shops website starting Thursday. If you’re in LA and can’t make it to the event, Arcade will be open December 12-15 from 11 AM - 6 PM.
Lowering the value of my home in the name of fashion
A fun piece of trivia about my former closet: it was once a bedroom. In my 28-year old naiveté, I decided to turn a 3-bedroom home into a 2-bedroom, converting an entire bedroom into a closet and boring a hallway from my bedroom into it. At the time, the remodel seemed like a financial drop in the bucket compared to my net worth (which never materialized the way we all expected) — and fashion paid for the house, so it made sense to turn at least part of the home into a place of worship.

This is more than a closet sale. It’s an elective and inspired existential purge, an effort to shed years of excess, to honor the experiences imbued in these pieces, and pass the good vibes they bring along to the next person ready to make their own memories, all packaged into a fun party.
Hope to see you Thursday. I’ll have a sharpie in hand for those of you who feel like bringing a dogeared copy of that pink book :)
xx
